After the return of party politics to Croatia in the 1860s, two opposing currents led by two very different men would emerge. On one side, a wealthy bishop will be the first to dream of a united Yugoslavia, while his great rival, a firebrand lawyer, will demand the national glory and expansion of Croatia alone.

From what I hear, Starčević was actually accepted figure in Tito’s Yugoslavia for his anti-clerical and anti-Austrian views. Of course, not completelly.
Well, I can’t say for sure, as I didn’t live in SR Croatia to know, but from what I’ve read, his legacy was tarnished by the Ustasha trying to appropriate him as their own.
